A few years ago, a new global movement was born. It takes the idea of universal basic income (UBI) and uses it to redistribute wealth from the Global North to the Global South, ending extreme deprivation for people everywhere and addressing global inequality.
Worldwide basic income would be funded by charging corporations and well-off individuals for their overuse of the global commons. Money would be paid directly from the global fund to every adult and child worldwide. Starting at $30 per person (so $120 for a four-person household), this monthly payment would increase to $100 and beyond as soon as funding became available. It would transform life for at least half of the world’s people, and begin a long overdue process of global redistribution.
World Basic Income is the first organisation in the world to actively research and campaign for this idea. Working with a fast-growing network of activists and experts from Africa, Asia and the Americas, we are building a body of research and initiating a grassroots movement to push for this change.
This seven-minute video shows World Basic Income's directors and International Advisory Board members explaining why we campaign for a cash dividend for people everywhere.
